Getting Started
Wizards and Witches of the Vale, the Rift has roared open once more! Together with your help, we can contain the Rift's powerful magics and prevent it from tearing apart the islands.
Why hasn’t the event begun in my park yet?
Your park must be at least level 11 to participate in this event, which began on July, 6th 2017.
If you’re above level 11 and the event hasn’t started for you, you may be playing on an older version of DragonVale. Please update to the most recent version through your device's app store.
I missed the help menus/event tutorials. What should I do?
Select the Prize Pavilion, then tap the Help icon. There you can view all the information about the event.
How long does the event last?
The Roar of the Rift runs through August 29th, 2017, and concludes on August 30th at 11am MDT. It will not be possible to earn additional Magic after this time, but the Prize Pavilion will remain open for a few extra days so you can turn in any leftover Magic you may have.
Collecting Magic
During this event you will provide contributions to your House's Airship, play games, and collect Magic around your park. Magic can then be turned in for fabulous prizes at the Prize Pavilion!
Ways to Earn Magic:
- Completing House Airship Orders
- Collecting DragonCash or harvesting Treats
- Hatching dragons
- Clearing bushes and trees from new islands
- Playing games in the Hall of Hoopla
- Sending dragons into the Rift
- Collecting daily rewards at the Pentournal Presentium
- Receiving gifts from friends
- Visiting friends’ parks and tapping party hats
- Competing in Colosseum events
- Questing at the Perch of Kairos and Gaia’s Nest
- Finding and tapping on hidden items and visitors in your park
Why aren’t I earning any Magic?
If you're no longer earning Magic, you've likely hit your daily limit for Magic. Nice work! You can view the time until more Magic becomes available by tapping the Prize Pavilion then tapping the Info icon.
What is the daily limit of Magic?
Magic is normally limited to 1000 per day, but be on the lookout for special occasions where there is more Magic available! Keep in mind, purchases in the market are not affected by the daily limit. Please note that in this event you can continue to earn Magic for your House even after you've hit your personal limit for the day.
When does Magic reset?
Your daily cap for Magic will reset each day at 11am MDT. Check back each day for more Magic and more chances to earn prizes!
Why is there a daily collection limit on Magic during the Roar of the Rift?
A spell is cast to create Magic every day at the same time, but the spell only allows for a finite amount!
Will there be opportunities to earn extra Magic?
At random times throughout the Roar of the Rift players can earn more Magic than usual. Stay tuned to our Facebook community to learn more:
Purchasing Magic
Magic can also be purchased through the Market. Purchased Magic does not count against your daily collection limit.
Houses and Airships
During the Roar of the Rift event you will be working together with your fellow House members to contain the Rift's powerful magics and prevent it from tearing apart the islands.
All Magic you earn in your park is added toward your House contribution. If you and your House members can contribute enough Magic to reach the goal, you will earn a reward for every member of your House!
You can check your House contribution at any time by tapping your House icon below the Magic counter.
Choosing a House
If you participated in last year's Arcane Pentournament, you will have already selected a House. During the Roar of the Rift you and all of your fellow House members will be contributing to your previously chosen House to work towards a reward for each member.
If you did not participate in the Arcane Pentournament, you will be prompted to choose a House during the Roar of the Rift tutorial. This choice is permanent and cannot be changed afterward, so please choose carefully. After you make your selection you will receive that House’s mascot dragon and banner in your gifts menu!
Filling Airship Requests
Each of the five magical Houses has an Airship where you can contribute resources that will be used to help stabilize the Rift. Your House will ask for Dragon Treats, and the temporary use of your dragons. In exchange, you'll receive rewards from your House. Any dragons your House needs will be returned after a short time.
To fulfill an Airship request:
- Tap on your House's Airship
- Tap the "Contribute" button
- Tap an icon to fill that request
- Once all requests are filled, tap the "Send" button to send the Airship on its way
You will receive a Magic reward for each of the requests you fill, as well as an additional Magic reward for the completion of all orders on the Airship.
Please note: The Magic for completing the entire Airship will be awarded after the Airship returns from its voyage.
The Prize Pavilion
The Prize Pavilion can be found on the Pentournal Island (what's left of it anyway) and contains all the prizes that can be earned in the event.
Prizes are divided into several tiers, most of which are only available for a limited time. Be sure to get them while you can!
Exchanging Magic for Prizes
- Visit the Prize Pavilion and tap the Prizes menu
- View available prizes by tapping each of the different collections
- Select a prize from one of the many items available
- A counter on each prize will show you how many of that item you currently own. Please note that dragons that have not yet been hatched will not be counted.
Prize Availability
Unlike some previous events, you will not need to collect a certain number of prizes to unlock higher prize tiers. Instead, new prize collections will unlock as the even progresses and will be available for a limited time only.
Please note: Once a prize collection has expired, those prizes will not be available again during this event.
Activities & Games
Hall of Hoopla
While the Rift has torn apart the Pentournal Island, the Wizards and Witches aren't about to forego the games they had planned! We need something to boost morale, eh?
The Hall of Hoopla contains two different mini games - Wheel of Chance and Magic Tap.
Wheel of Chance - Give the wheel a spin and be rewarded with the number of Magic (or Gems!) the needle lands on.
Magic Tap - Test your reflexes and earn Magic with Magic Tap! You'll have 10 seconds to tap as much Magic as you can. Watch out for bombs or else it's game over!
You'll get 10 plays in the Hall of Hoopla each day. Please note that these 10 plays are shared between both games. You can visit the Hall of Hoopla at any time to check the time until games can be played again.
The Rift
Send your dragons to investigate the magic of the Rift and earn some extra Magic in the process. We're pretty sure it's safe - at least for dragons. You might want to stand back...
To send dragons to explore the Rift:
- Tap the Rift
- Tap the "Visit" button
- Tap on up to 5 Dragons to select them for the Rift. Dragons that have the same elements as the Rift will earn more Magic than those that don't.
- Tap the "Set" button to send your dragons to investigate the Rift
- To remove dragons from the Rift, tap the "Visit" button, then tap a selected dragon to remove it from the Rift. Once finished, tap the "Set" button.
The Rift can hold up to 60 Magic at once, so be sure to check back frequently to collect your available Magic. You will know there is Magic ready to collect when you see the Magic icon appear in the Rift.
Once per day the Rift will change its element which will remove all dragons currently visiting the Rift. Send new dragons to the Rift each day to keep that Magic flowing!
Hidden Items and Visitors
Rumor has it there are some special prizes and visitors hiding in your park. With all this Cataclysmic energy about you may find almost anything from previous events. Be on the lookout!
The Pentournal Presentium
The Pentournal Presentium rewards you for each day you play during the Roar of the Rift. Earn free Magic, Gems, and even dragons!
- Check in each day for magical rewards and special surprises!
- If you miss a day, don’t worry, you can spend a few gems to catch up. You cannot collect a day’s reward in advance.
- You only have to login to DragonVale each day to be eligible for the reward. If you login, but forget to visit the Pentournal Presentium, your reward will still be available to collect next time you visit.
I received a gift of Magic from the Pentournal Presentium but it wasn't added to my total. What happened?
Magic earned from the Pentournal Presentium does not count against your daily limit so it will be added to your overall Magic total, but won't be reflected in the daily counter/progress bar below your Magic total.
Changes For This Event
Prize Tiers
Unlike some previous events, you will not need to collect a certain number of prizes to unlock higher prize tiers. Instead, new prize collections will unlock as the event progresses and will be available for a limited time only.
Please note: Once a prize collection has expired, those prizes will not be available again during this event.
Magic Banking
There are some differences in the Roar of the Rift event that will affect surplus or "banked" Magic stored in your Gifts menu. Surplus Magic received from Airships or games will not be sent to the Gifts menu once you've reached your daily cap. Instead, any surplus Magic received beyond your daily cap will be added to your House contribution. This way the additional Magic is still helping you and your fellow House members work towards a reward, even after you've reached your daily cap.
Magic received in gifts from friends can still be saved in your Gifts menu if you choose. After the event ends you will have 3 additional days to collect any Magic remaining in your gifts. Please see the End of Event section for more information.
Collecting Magic After You've Reached the Daily Cap
It is also important to note that you can continue to earn Magic for your House after you've reached your daily cap. This additional Magic is not added to your personal total, but will be contributed to your chosen House. Once your House earns enough Magic, you'll all be given a prize!
Magic Conversion
Once the event has ended and the Prize Pavilion has closed, any Magic remaining in your Gifts menu will be converted into DragonCash at the rate of 1000 DragonCash per Magic. This differs from previous events where remaining event currency was converted to Dragon Treats.
End of the Event
When does the Roar of the Rift end?
The Roar of the Rift runs through August 29th, 2017, and concludes on August 30th at 11am MDT. It will not be possible to earn additional Magic after this time, but the Prize Pavilion will remain open for a few extra days so you can turn in any leftover Magic you may have.
When does the Prize Pavilion close?
The Prize Pavilion will remain open through September 1st and close at 11am MDT on September 2nd. You will not be able to earn additional Magic during this time, but you will have the opportunity to turn in any leftover Magic for prizes, as well as collect Magic you may have remaining in your Gifts menu.
I have Magic remaining in my Gifts menu. Will this be added to my total when the event ends?
After the event ends, any Magic stored in your Gifts menu must be collected in order to be added to your total. You can collect up to 1,000 Magic from your Gifts menu each day until the Prize Pavilion closes.
I collected a large gift from a friend but only some of it was added to my total. What happened to the rest of my Magic?
If you collect a gift that puts you over the daily Magic limit (1,000 per day), the surplus Magic is removed from your friend's name and added to the Backflip Studios Gift total. Please note that this may not happen until the next time you load DragonVale.
What happens to my leftover Magic at the end of the Roar of the Rift?
Nothing happens to your leftover Magic until the Prize Pavilion closes. You can still hop in the game, access the prizes, and spend your Magic however you'd like. After the Prize Pavilion closes on September 2nd, we'll turn any leftover Magic into DragonCash at the rate of 1000 DragonCash per Magic.
When is my last chance to purchase Magic if I need a little more?
To prevent any potential issues with purchases being made as the event is ending, Magic purchasing will be turned off at 8am MDT on September 2nd, 3 hours prior to the closing of the Prize Pavilion.
