Getting Started
Prepare your magic carpets to fly on an amazing adventure in the dunes. New amazing dragons and friends are waiting for you! Do not forget to check out our new decorations and new path in the Limited tier!
Your park must be at least level 11 to participate in this event, which began on June 11th, 2026. If you’re above level 11 and the event hasn’t started for you, you may be playing on an older version of DragonVale. Please update to the most recent version through your device's app store. The correct versions for the event are 4.40 and 4.40.1.
Earning Spice
During this event, Spice can be earned in a variety of ways. It can then be exchanged for curious goodies at the Beacon of the Sun!
Ways to Earn Spice:
- Collecting from habitats
- Breeding and hatching dragons
- Purchasing Dragons with Gems
- Watching Visions at Tolzar's Optical Oracle
- Competing in the Colosseum
- Playing games in the Excitents
- Competing in challenges at the Trial of Sands
- Finding and tapping on Treasures in your park
- Collecting daily rewards at the Refreshing Waters
Collecting Prizes
The Beacon of the Sun can be found on the event islands and contains all the prizes that can be earned in the event. Brand new upgradable decorations have been added to the Limited tier!
Exchanging Spice for Prizes
- Visit the Beacon of the Sun and tap the Prizes icon.
- View available prizes by tapping each of the different collections.

A counter on each prize will show you how many of that item you currently own. Please note that dragons that have not yet been hatched will not be counted.
Activities & Games

Wheel of Chance - Give the wheel a spin and be rewarded with the number of Spice or Gems the needle lands on.

Buying More Plays
After you use your last available play at the Excitents, you will have the option to purchase an additional play for 5 Gems. Purchasing an additional play is entirely optional and you will still receive your 5 free plays every 12 hours as usual.
Golden Chests
Sometimes mini-games contain a Golden Chest that will provide special rewards. You'll always have a small chance to find a Golden Chest when playing games, but buying an additional play gives a 100% chance of a Golden Chest appearing on your next turn. Please note that this only guarantees that the chest will appear, and not that you will win the chest.
Refreshing Waters
The Refreshing Waters reward you for each day you play during Dunes of Magic II.
Check in each day for magical rewards and special surprises! Earn free Spice and even dragons!
If you miss a day, don’t worry, you can spend a few gems to catch up. You cannot collect a day’s reward in advance.
You only have to login to DragonVale each day to be eligible for the reward. If you login, but forget to visit the Refreshing Waters, your reward will still be available to collect the next time you visit.
Trials of Sand
Similar to cooperative breeding, you can team up with friends’ dragons to compete in challenges and win Spice!
- Challenges will last six hours each
- Choose the best dragons for the challenge by matching your dragon's elements to the elements of the current challenge
Runic Breeding Caves
See how many different dragons you can breed in the Runic Breeding Caves! The resulting egg from each breed in a Runic Breeding Cave will be exchanged for Spice.
The longer the breed times, the more Spice will be awarded, and breeding new dragon types will provide an extra bonus of Iceberries. All breeds in Runic Breeding Caves are reduced in time and can be sped up with Gems.
Please note that the cost to speed up a breed in a Runic Breeding Cave will increase with each use.
All the dragons you breed in Runic Breeding Caves will be logged in the Egg History, and you can choose ONE of these dragons to keep for each cave that you have activated. You can access your Egg History at any time by tapping on a Runic Breeding Cave, then tapping the "Egg History'' icon at the bottom of the screen. Please note that you have to claim your egg of choice from each cave you have activated during the event before it ends on July 27th at 2PM UTC.
Additional Runic Breeding Caves
Everyone will have one Runic Breeding Cave to start with, and will be given a bonus Runestone to activate a second cave during the tutorial. This bonus cave will be available to use for a period of one week.
On Double days players will be given a second cave to breed in. And on Triple days there will be an additional cave given to players, bringing it to a total of 3 free caves. Each cave will generate Iceberries, and you can claim 1 free egg from each Runic Breeding Cave that was activated in your park.
You can also purchase Runestones in the Market that will allow you to activate more Runic Breeding Caves. These caves will last for a period of one week from the time of activation.
It is important to note that reactivating the same cave will not allow you to claim more than one egg to keep from that cave.
Choosing a Free Dragon from your Runic Breeding Caves
You can select the eggs you want to keep at any point during the event, but please choose carefully as this choice is final and you will not be able to change your selection. You can choose 1 egg to keep from each Runic Breeding Cave that was activated in your park.
To claim a free dragon, please follow the steps below:
- Tap the Runic Breeding Cave you wish to collect an egg from.
- Tap the Egg History icon.
- View all the eggs you've bred, using filters to sort them as necessary.
- Tap the claim button on the left side of the Egg History menu.
- In the list that pops up, choose the dragon you wish to claim, then tap the "CONFIRM" button.
- Tap yes to confirm your dragon selection, or choose no to cancel and choose a different dragon.
- Once you have claimed an egg from a Runic Breeding Cave you will not be able to claim another egg from that cave.
Note - if you do not claim your egg of choice before the event ends on July 27th at 2 PM UTC, the game will automatically send one from the eggs you have received in each cave to your Gifts menu. These choices are made at random and are final, so make sure you make a claim before the event island disappears.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why hasn’t the event begun in my park yet?

What is the daily limit of Spice?
There is no overall daily limit on Spice in this event, but the maximum amount you can earn by collecting from habitats is 500 per day on a regular day and 1000 on a double day.
Why am I not receiving Spice when I collect from my habitats?
If you are no longer earning any Spice when you collect from habitats, that would indicate that you have reached your habitat limit for the day.
Why didn't I win the Golden Chest when I bought an additional play at the Excitents?
Buying an additional play guarantees that a Golden Chest will appear as one of the possible prizes in that round, but does not guarantee that you will be able to win it. Please note that in Name that Dragon you must answer correctly before the timer expires in order to win the Golden Chest.
When does Dunes of Magic II end?
Dunes of Magic II runs through July 26th, and concludes on July 27th at 2:00 PM UTC. It will not be possible to earn additional Spice after this time, but the Beacon of the Sun will remain open for two additional days so you can spend any leftover Spice you may have.
When does the Beacon of the Sun close?
The Beacon of the Sun will close on July 29th at 2:00 PM UTC and it will not be possible to claim event prizes after this time.
What happens to my leftover Spice at the end of Dunes of Magic II?
After the Beacon of the Sun closes, we'll turn any leftover Spice into DragonCash at the rate of 1,000 DragonCash per 1 Spice.
Why did the theme and time of day in my park change?
With each event there is an accompanying theme, and depending on that, the time of day in your park will also be affected. The theme can be changed manually with the Twilight Tower building at any time, but the theme will revert back to normal day and night cycles when the event ends. You can easily tell what time of day is set by the active theme by checking if any lamps or other decorations that respond to time are active.
What is the skybox theme with the current event?
During Dunes of Magic II, the theme of the event is the Day theme. It will go back to day and night cycles when the event ends, but this can also be manually changed from the Twilight Tower at any time.
Why don’t I have any visitors in my park?
During Dunes of Magic II, the clickable NPCs in your park will be 4 Treasure Chests filled with Spice. Find them and tap on them for extra Spice! Once a Treasure Chest has been found and tapped on, it will not appear again until the next day, meaning you can find and tap only 4 Treasure Chests per day.
What are Runestones used for?
Runestones are items used to activate Runic Breeding Caves for 7 days, allowing you to use them for eggless breeding for that duration. The results of each breed will be exchanged for Spice. At any point, even when the cave is inactive, you can select to keep one of those egg results permanently, but please choose carefully as this choice is final.
Why can I not collect the Spice I have stored in my Runic Breeding Caves?
The Spice that you see in the Runic Breeding Cave menu simply shows how much Spice you have generated through eggless breeding. This amount cannot be collected or redeemed as it has already been deposited to your overall Spice Counter.
What happens to the dragons I breed in the Runic Breeding Cave?
The resulting egg from each breed in the Runic Breeding Cave will be exchanged for Spice. All the dragons you breed will be logged in your Egg History, and you can choose ONE of these dragons to keep. You can select the egg you want to keep at any point in the event, but please choose carefully as this choice is final.
What can I collect from my Runic Breeding Caves?
From the Runic Breeding Caves, you can collect a single one of the eggs that you have amassed in your Egg History tab. You can select the egg you want to keep at any point in the event, but please choose carefully as this choice is final.
Where can I find Runestones during Dunes of Magic II?
During Dunes of Magic II, a free Runestone will be sent to the Gifts inbox of all players participating in the event and another one will be obtainable from the Runic Breeding Cave tutorial. Separately, you can find 2 additional Runestones in the Daily Reward Calendar of the DragonVale Hub (Melvin’s Market).
What happens to my leftover Runestones at the end of the event?
At the end of the event, any leftover Runestones will be converted into gems, at a rate of 10 gems per Runestone.
