Adding a Friend Using a Friend ID
Introduction
With the new Friend IDs in DragonVale you can easily add other players as friends without the need for other social services. This feature is fully cross-platform so you can add friends that play on iOS, Android, or Kindle devices.
It is important to note that Friend IDs are for adding friends only, and are not a means of saving your park progress. If your park is being saved with Game Center, Google, or Facebook you will want to continue using those services to save your park.
Choosing Your Friend ID
All players will be given a default Friend ID which can be shared with other DragonVale players. You can keep the default ID if you wish, but creating your own unique ID is highly recommended as it will make it much easier for your friends to identify you.
Follow the steps below to change your Friend ID:
- Tap the Social icon
- Tap the “Invite Friends” button at the bottom left of the social menu
- Tap the “Change Friend ID” button
- Tap on the current name to enter a new one, or choose from one of the suggested names. The hash symbol and numbers after your name are assigned automatically and cannot be customized
- To confirm the name change, tap the “Change ID” button, or choose “No” to cancel
You can change your Friend ID once for free, but after that it will cost Gems to change your name. Changing your name will not affect any friends you have added and you will still be on their friends list.
Please note: If you have indicated that you are under the age of 16 you will not be able to choose a custom Friend ID and must choose from one of the suggested names.
Adding a Friend Using a Friend ID
By sharing Friend IDs you can add other DragonVale players to your park as friends. Please note that this is a 2-way process, and both players must enter each other’s Friend ID in order to become friends with one another. Be sure to share your full ID including the numbers after the hash symbol.
Follow the steps below to add a friend using their Friend ID:
- Tap the Social icon at the bottom of the screen
- Tap the “Invite Friends” button at the bottom left of the social menu
- Tap the “Add Friend” button
- Enter a Friend ID, including the numbers after the hash symbol
- Once that friend reciprocates by adding your Friend ID you will appear in each other’s friends list in DragonVale
Every park will have its own unique Friend ID, so if your friend has multiple parks you would need to add each of them individually in order to see all of their parks in your friends list.
Sending a Direct Link to Your Friend ID
You can also share your Friend ID using the Share Link function. Tapping the Share Link button will copy a direct link to your Friend ID. You can then paste this link into an email, text, or other message and send it to someone you want to add as a friend.
When the recipient clicks this link it will open DragonVale and add you to their friends list. You will also need to add the other person as a friend on your end, either by entering their Friend ID, or by using the direct link if they've shared it with you. Please note that to add someone by the direct link you must click that link from a device where you have DragonVale installed.
Changing Your Icon
You can personalize your Friend ID by choosing an icon to display on your profile. Your friends will see this icon next to your name in their friends list. Please note that you can only use the icon for a dragon or egg that you currently have in your park.
To change your icon:
- Tap the Social icon
- Tap the “Invite Friends” button at the bottom left of the social menu
- Tap on your current icon to view a list of available icons
- Select a category (baby dragons, eggs, etc.)
- Choose the icon you would like to use, then tap “OK”
Removing Friends
Friends that were added using a Friend ID can be removed from your friends list using the steps below:
- Open DragonVale and tap the Social icon
- Select the Friends tab at the top of the social menu
- Locate the friend you wish to remove, then tap the red “x” in the upper right corner
- Tap "Ok" to confirm, or "No" to cancel
After removing a friend you can add them again at any time by re-entering their Friend ID. Please note that any friends added via Facebook or Game Center can only be deleted by removing them on those services directly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I delete my Facebook account now that I'm using Friend IDs to add friends?
Friend IDs are for adding friends only, and are not a means of saving your park progress. If your park is being saved with Facebook, Game Center, or Google you will want to continue using those services to save your park.
Also, if you have friends that were added using Facebook or Game Center only you would lose access to those friends if you were to delete those accounts.
Can I add friends that play on a different device platform than I do?
Yes, this feature is fully cross-platform so you can add friends that play on iOS, Android, or Kindle devices.
Can I still use Facebook to add friends?
Yes, you can still use Facebook to add new friends, and any Facebook friends you have added previously will remain available in your friends list.
Why are social features inaccessible in my game?
If you are not able to access social features in DragonVale, it is likely because you have indicated that you are under the age of 13. Children under 13 can still play the game, but will not have access to social features such as Friend IDs or Facebook.
Why can't I select some dragons for my icon?
You can only use the icon for a dragon or egg that you currently have in your park. As you acquire new dragons their icons will become available to use.
Can I add my own custom profile icon?
You cannot use a custom image for your friend icon and can only choose one of the icons provided in-game.
If my friend has multiple parks will I be able to see them all when I add them as a friend?
Every park will have its own unique Friend ID, so if your friend has multiple parks you would need to add each of them individually in order to see all of their parks in your friends list.
Will my friends need to add me again if I change my Friend ID?
Changing your name will not affect any friends you have already added and you will still be on their friends lists.
