Getting Started
Are you ready to find a new way to acquire dragons? Introducing - Dragon Draw! A brand new feature that uses ancient magic to help you invite dragons into your park.
Your park must be at least level 11 to participate in the Dragon Draw, which first appeared on July 20th, 2021. If you’re above level 11 and you don’t see the feature, you may be playing on an older version of DragonVale. Please update to the most recent version through your device's app store. The correct version for the feature is 4.24.
Dragon Draw
Dragon Draw is our newest addition to the Vale! We have been working on it for quite a few months now, and hope you enjoy it.
After the 20th of July, 8am MDT if you have updated your DragonVale application to version 4.24, the Dragon Draw tutorial will start. It will take you through buying the Summoning Circle building, from which you access the feature, as well as give you the basics on how to interact with it. You also need to be at least level 11 to try it out, and if it hasn’t appeared in your park yet, make sure to have enough space in your park to place the new building.
What is Dragon Draw?
It is a new way to invite dragons into your Park! It is ancient magic, available at all times! You and fellow park owners choose the dragons you want to see by voting, and the most voted one goes into an Active Draw. Once there, everyone can contribute to that Active Draw with the specially designed Dragon Draw currency - Soul Shards. One lucky winner gets to keep the dragon if two conditions are satisfied:
1) the timer has not expired.
2) the dragon’s Soul Shard threshold is met.
Summoning Circle
Dragon Draw is accessible through the Summoning Circle building and the Soul Shard counter button on the right of the screen. As part of this feature's tutorial, you're asked to purchase the building from the Market and place it wherever you want. If for some reason you don't have the building in your park, feel free to visit the Market section and purchase it from there for 99 DragonCash.
Currency - Soul Shards
Soul Shards are fragments containing the essence of dragons from eons ago. Each has the power to summon a specific dragon from another dimension into ours! The Soul Shards are a special currency, designed for Dragon Draw and can only be used in the Summoning Circle on Active Draws.
Free Soul Shards can be acquired through habitat collection. However, keep in mind that the maximum amount of free Soul Shards you can earn by collecting from habitats is 20 per day. With the 4.28 update, there is no longer a cap of 50 for how many Soul Shards you can hold at a time.
Additionally, there are amazing deals in the Market for Soul Shards, so don't forget to check them out! There's no limit on how many purchased Soul Shards you can hold.
Active Draws
What is referred to as Active Draws are the dragons you see immediately upon opening the Summoning Circle. The dragons there are chosen based on players' voting, but you can read more about that in the Vote & Decide help item. Each dragon has a unique threshold of Soul Shards it needs in order to come to our dimension, as well as a timer below its name, showcasing the time frame when the stars are aligned perfectly for that to happen. At all times there are going to be 5 Active Draws unless a slot is temporarily closed while a new Active Draw is being prepared.
Themed Draw
With the 4.28 update, an additional 6th slot is added to the main Dragon Draw menu. It is exclusively dedicated to a specially curated themed list of dragons that will be in rotation for a limited time. Tessa made sure you are informed when a Themed Draw is active, but don't forget to check it often.
Soul Shard Threshold
On each dragon that is in an Active Draw, you'll see a threshold on the right end of the progress bar. That number shows how many Soul Shards need to be pledged by you and other Valers, before the timer under the dragon name expires for a Draw to be successful. Grand Priestess Tessa Birchbaum's papers say that the more Shards you pledge, the higher the chance it is to win that dragon!
Active Draws and Timer
Each Active Draw has a timer that counts down, and it’s unique for each dragon. This timer showcases the time frame when the stars are aligned perfectly for the threshold to be met.
Unsuccessful Draws
If an active Dragon Draw's timer expires before all the necessary Soul Shards are collected, the Summoning Circle will refund all Soul Shards you have contributed. You can find these refunded Soul Shards in your Gifts list in the Social menu.
Successful Draws
If the two necessary conditions for a Draw are successfully met - threshold reached before the time expired - you don't get any Shards back, whether you won the dragon or not, since all Soul Shards were critical to the summoning process. Successful draws also ensure that that dragon finds a new home soon! Who knows, that might be your park!
Upcoming Dragons
In the main Dragon Draw menu, under ‘Upcoming Dragons’, you will find a ‘Vote’ button that will lead you to the vote menu. By accessing that menu, you can cast your votes for the ones you would like to see next.
Vote & Decide
From the Vote & Decide menu you can vote for the dragons you wish to see next as Active Draws! Keep in mind that the voting is global among all players, so the dragon with the most votes goes into a Draw. You can vote for as many dragons as you want, but you can't vote for dragons that are in an Active Draw. Remember that you can put only one vote for a dragon before it goes to a Draw.
Dragons available in the Vote section
You can use the search or filter options on the Vote & Decide menu to find your favorite dragon! Many dragons are featured in that list with some exceptions:
- Mythic
- Legendary
- Dragons that cost DragonCash
- Newly introduced event dragons that have been added to the game in the most recent event. Meaning that with the coming of each new event, a set of dragons from the previous event will be added to the list.
Please note that all votes are final! Once placed, a vote cannot be revoked.
Completed Draws
In the main Dragon Draw menu, under 'Completed Draws' you can see the result of the last four Active draws - whether they were successful or not. By accessing that menu, you can also see the results from the last 50 Draws.
Dragon Draws You've Won
By using the filter button on the top right of the Completed Draws menu, you can see your wins. They are highlighted in this menu, so they're easier to spot. Also, keep in mind that dragons that you have won go directly to your Gifts as eggs. With the 4.28 update, they follow the already familiar order of receiving whenever applicable: Regular version -> Twin version -> Rift Twin version.
Pop-ups
There are two types of popups that you’ll encounter while interacting with Dragon Draw - a winner popup and a summary popup.
- The winner popup will appear when you win a dragon.
- The summary popup will make sure that you are all caught up in case you decide to step away from the magic of Dragon Draw. It will appear upon accessing the Summoning Circle again, informing you about the results of all dragons you have contributed Soul Shards to - whether the draws were successful or not, and if you were the lucky winner!
Frequently Asked Questions
Why hasn’t the Dragon Draw tutorial begun in my park yet?
Your park must be at least level 11 to see the tutorial of the feature, which first appeared on July 20th, 2021 at 8am MDT. Please also note that for the tutorial to appear, you should have enough space in your park to place the Summoning Circle building.
If you’re above level 11 and the event hasn’t started for you, you may be playing on an older version of DragonVale. Please update to the most recent version through your device's app store. The correct version for the event is 4.24.
For how long will Dragon Draw be around?
Since it is not associated with any event, Dragon Draw will be available at all times, unless otherwise noted.
Why am I not receiving free Soul Shards when I collect from my habitats?
If you are no longer earning any free Soul Shards when you collect from habitats, that would indicate that you have reached your habitat limit of 20 for the day.
Why didn’t I win a specific dragon after putting a lot of Soul Shards on it?
Each dragon in the Dragon Draw is a majestic creature that chooses its owner. Unfortunately, it can go to only one proud park owner, but putting more Soul Shards towards a dragon increases your chance of winning it!
Why is the Add button next to a dragon grayed out?
Each time a slot is freed in the main UI for Active Draws, the next popular dragon will occupy it. However, a timer will show up below its name, counting down two minutes. This is done, so all park owners can prepare for the upcoming pledging of Soul Shards, and no Active Draw will go unnoticed.
I voted for a specific dragon only once. Why can’t I put more votes on it?
You can vote for as many dragons you want. However, each dragon you put a vote on will keep it, until it is its time to shine on the Active Draws stage. Once gone from the Active Draws, you can vote for it again. Please also note that all votes are final. Once placed, a vote cannot be revoked.
Why aren't some dragons on the voting list, including the current event ones?
Many dragons are featured in that vote list with some exceptions:
- Mythic
- Legendary
- Dragons that cost DragonCash
- Newly introduced event dragons that have been added to the game in the most recent event. Meaning that with the coming of each new event, a set of dragons from the previous event will be added to the list.
Where can I check how many Soul Shards I put towards a dragon?
Once a dragon is out of the Active Draws, no matter what the outcome was, you can check how many Shards you’ve put to it by going to the Completed Draws menu and looking for that specific dragon.
I don’t remember if I put Soul Shards towards a dragon in the Active Draw. Is there a way to check this while it’s still active?
Yes, each dragon that you have contributed even one Soul Shard to will have a little Shard icon with a ribbon appear next to its avatar, on the right side. This icon will be visible while the dragon is in an Active Draw. Once it’s out of there, you can see if and how many you’ve contributed to it by going to the Completed Draws menu.
Can I win a dragon if I haven’t put any Soul Shards on it?
No, you have to put at least one Soul Shard towards a dragon in an Active Draw to have a chance to win it. Each dragon has a unique threshold that is not shared among the other dragons in the Active Draw.
I haven’t logged in in a couple of days. How can I check what happened with the Dragon Draw while I was away?
We thought about that as well, don’t worry! If you’ve been absent from the Dragon Draw feature, once you open it back you’ll get a summary popup that will help you catch up on what you missed.
There are some Soul Shards in my Gifts. Where did they come from?
They were most likely reimbursed to you if a Draw didn’t happen. What we mean by that is, if you put even one Soul Shard towards a certain dragon, and its threshold wasn’t met before the timer expires, you will get all Shards put on this dragon back.
I won a dragon from the Dragon Draw but I can’t find where it is?
Please check your Gifts. Grand Priestess Tessa Birchbaum always makes sure to put the dragon eggs there, for the lucky winners to find.
Why is there a dragon in the Active Draws that says Completed! but it’s not gone from the UI?
It will move over to the Completed Draws in a few seconds. Please allow it a moment to enjoy the spotlight before it goes away.
Why are there no Active Draws in the Themed slot?
The Themed slot consists of a specially curated themed list of dragons that will be in rotation for a limited time. If there is no scheduled one, the 6th slot will have a placeholder text until a new list is created.
